3ds Max is software for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and visualization. Create stunning game environments, design visualizations, and virtual reality experiences. Character Studio was a plugin which since version 4 of Max is now integrated in 3ds Max; it helps users to animate virtual characters. The system works using a character rig or 'Biped' skeleton which has stock settings that can be modified and customized to fit the character meshes and animation needs. I purchased 3ds Max for £3,500 and spent a further £3,000 to upgrade it. I now find that if I wish to upgrade the product yet again to version 4. Discreet will not let you do it - unless you pay another £1,500. Discreet are total rip off merchants. Steer clear of them. I have never had any support. I have never had any news about upgrades. 3ds max won in the same year an Editor's Choice Award, with a 98% rating, from NextGenElectronics.com. The same year 3ds max also won an Atomic Hot Award from Atomic Maximum Power Computing Magazine, as well as the Seal of Excellence Award from Animation Magazine. in 2003 Discreet released 3ds max 6.
So I used to own a copy of Discreet 3ds max 5 many years ago, but I can no longer find my CDs, and I want to do some 3d modeling for an old game (Warcraft III) once again, but the scripts the modding community wrote for converting.mdl files into.3ds files are only compatible with Discreet 3ds max 4 or 5.

- Some Manipulators like the Cap Height / Filletuse two pairs of gizmos and two planes. The plane most orthogonal to thecurrent view will be used. If you try to move the gizmo whose plane isnot the most orthogonal, the mouse might not move correctly together withthe gizmo. Please in such cases use the other pair for precise controlinstead.
- Gengon has a Fillet property that changesthe SIDES of the object and not the top-bottom fillet like with Spindleetc. The Manipulator will still go up-down while the fillet will occurleft-right.
